Natural mink refill aftercare: what to do (and avoid) for the first 48 hours
By Alyssa's Eyelash | July 16, 2026
We love hearing “the experience was amazing” after a first lash visit, and the truth is, your refill looks its best when you protect it right away. The single most important rule is simple: keep your Natural Mink Refill dry and oil-free for the first 24 to 48 hours. That one step does more for retention than any fancy product.

Quick refresher: Our Natural Mink Refill is a 60-minute maintenance appointment ($65) done within three weeks of your initial set. We replace shed lashes so your set stays elegant and full without starting over.
Your first 24 to 48 hours: the do’s that keep lashes on
Right after a refill, think “hands off, face cool, products simple.” In our Montclair summers, that matters even more because heat and sweat tend to show up fast, especially in July.
Do this
- Keep lashes dry for 24 to 48 hours. That means no splashing water on your eyes and no face-in-the-shower moments.
- Sleep on your back if you can. If you’re a side sleeper, try to keep your face from pressing into the pillow.
- Let us know if you’re headed to the gym the same day. We’ll talk timing so you’re not sweating hard during that first window.
- Use a clean, dry spoolie to gently straighten lashes if you notice a twist. Light pressure only.
Avoid this
- Steam, saunas, hot yoga, and long hot showers.
- Swimming, including chlorine pools and ocean water, for at least 48 to 72 hours.
- Rubbing your eyes, picking at a lash, or tugging at a “loose” piece. That’s how you pull your natural lash with it.
- Oil-based products around the eye area, including heavy eye creams and oil makeup removers.
If you’re shopping at Montclair Place or running through the Moreno Street corridor after your appointment, keep it simple. Skip a sweaty errand and save the workout for later. Protect the refill now so it stays looking “just done” longer.
Days 3 to 7: keep them natural-looking, not crunchy
A lot of people choose Natural Mink because they want that “people think it’s my real lashes” look. We hear “they look so natural” all the time, and your habits in the first week are what keep that soft finish.
After the first 48 hours, you can go back to normal face washing, but be gentle and be consistent. Clean lashes actually last better because buildup can break down the bond and make lashes clump.
The week-one “please don’t” list
- No waterproof mascara. It’s hard to remove without rubbing and oils.
- No lash curler. Extensions don’t need it, and curlers can snap them.
- Avoid sleeping face-down. Friction is one of the biggest reasons people see early gaps.
- Be mindful with sunscreen and moisturizers near the lash line. If it feels greasy, it’s not lash-friendly.
And if you’re outdoors a lot in Montclair’s heat, plan your workouts around retention. Quick, early-morning walks are usually easier on lashes than a mid-day sweat session right after a refill.
The simple daily routine we want you doing in under 3 minutes
If you want low-maintenance lashes, your aftercare has to be low-maintenance too. Here’s what we generally recommend for eyelash refill aftercare that fits a busy morning routine, especially if you’re commuting in from Upland, Claremont, Ontario, Pomona, Chino, or Rancho Cucamonga.
Use
- An oil-free foaming lash cleanser (type matters more than brand). Use your fingertips or a very soft brush, then rinse gently.
- A clean, sterile spoolie. Brush when lashes are dry, usually once a day.
- A silk or satin pillowcase to cut down friction and tangling.
Skip
- Oil makeup removers and balms around the eyes.
- Cotton pads that snag. If you use anything, use a lint-free option and keep pressure light.
- “Fixing” lashes with your fingers during the day. A quick spoolie pass is safer.

When you’ll want your next refill (and why 2 to 3 weeks is the sweet spot)
Most regulars book refills every 2 to 3 weeks, or when they notice gaps. That timing matches how natural lashes shed, and it keeps your set looking full without needing a full reset.
We hear a lot of loyalty stories like “been coming here for 10+ years” and “I’m in and out within an hour, ” and that’s exactly why refills work well for busy schedules. Our Natural Mink Refill is designed to fit into a real life calendar, not take it over.

If something feels off, reach out to us fast
A little awareness goes a long way. Some shedding is normal because your natural lashes shed. But sharp discomfort, noticeable irritation, or lashes that suddenly twist and won’t brush back into place are reasons to call us so we can take a look and help.
“They always take good care of you!”
one of our regulars
We’re right in the Moreno Street commercial corridor in central Montclair, close to Montclair Place and Montclair Village, so it’s easy to pop in if you’re already in the area. A lot of our guests also swing by around transit time since we’re a convenient stop for commuters using the Montclair Transcenter.
Quick plan for your next two weeks
Keep lashes dry and oil-free for 24 to 48 hours, cleanse gently after that, and book your next refill at the 2 to 3 week mark for the fullest look. If you’re driving in from nearby cities, ask us about evening or weekend options so you’re not fighting traffic.

Natural Mink Refill aftercare FAQs (quick answers)
How long should I keep my lashes dry after a Natural Mink Refill?
We recommend keeping them dry for 24 to 48 hours. No direct water on the lash line, and skip steam and heavy sweat during that window.
Can I exercise or go to hot yoga after a Natural Mink Refill?
For the first 24 to 48 hours, it’s best to avoid workouts that cause heavy sweating and skip hot yoga completely. Sweat and heat can weaken retention before the bond has fully set.
Will swimming in a pool or ocean ruin my Natural Mink Refill?
Swimming too soon can definitely shorten the life of your refill. We recommend waiting 48 to 72 hours before pools or ocean, and try to keep your eyes from being rubbed after you get out.
How soon can I wear eye makeup or mascara after a Natural Mink Refill?
If you wear eye makeup, wait until after that first 24 to 48 hours. Skip waterproof mascara, and keep anything you do use easy to remove without rubbing.
What cleansers and tools should I use to keep my Natural Mink Refill clean?
Use an oil-free foaming lash cleanser and a clean spoolie. Clean gently once you’re past the first 48 hours, brush only when lashes are dry, and avoid cotton that can snag.
